Living with Hoarding: Our Resources

Making Room is a therapeutic decluttering service based in Hackney, and currently working across North-East and central London.

Making Room was established in 2011 to meet the needs of a population of adults with hoarding behaviours in Hackney, who wanted decluttering support at a time when the only service available was traditional blitz cleans.

Making Room’s techniques are based on the research and findings of Frost and Steketee, leading American academics, and we have developed our assessment and session support tools from their publications.

Making Room’s programme is client led, and requires the consent and commitment of the client to work with us. Once the client is on board, we agree a decluttering programme with them. Our programmes are set against the level of need and scale of collecting, and begin with one two hour session every week, which increases in frequency as the programme progresses.
