Volunteer opportunities

We are currently looking for fantastic volunteers (over 18) to support our work on the following projects and services.

Making Room

Our Making Room service provides practical and therapeutic support for people who hoard. We are looking for volunteers to help hoarders declutter their homes and ensure they have the social support they need to address their issues and make long-lasting changes to their behaviour.

Skills, experience and other requirements

  • Volunteers must be aged over 18;
  • Interested in using or gaining skills and experience in motivational interviewing and behaviour change techniques;
  • Willing and able to offer some practical help with decluttering.

  • Time commitment

    We need volunteers with availability during the week who can commit to 1-3 hours a week over a 6-month period to support hoarding clients.

    Digital confidence

    We are seeking digital information support volunteers for a project, funded by Connect Hackney, that aims to improve older people’s confidence using digital technology and the internet. Volunteers will work with older people to understand what they want to achieve, and teach them how to do the things they want to do online.

    There are opportunities to volunteer with groups at our Learn Together Clubs, which are informal, social occasions in community venues, or on a one-to-one basis doing home visits with older people who find it more difficult to leave the house.

    Skills, experience and other requirements

    • Volunteers must be aged over 18;
    • Confident using digital technology and the internet;
    • Comfortable teaching new skills to others;
    • Able to work closely with older people, at their own pace.

    Time commitment

    Learn Together Club volunteers will need to be able to dedicate a few hours a week to attend sessions. Volunteers interested in home visits should be able to commit at least one hour a week, which can be organised flexibly around their schedule (depending on what suits the older person).
